How hard would it be to convert an 8-track tape player into an iPOD dock? Any suggestions on what brand, and model of iPOD dock would be best suited to such a mod?
That (of course) sounds easy enough. To think of it that way, such a mod could be easier than I'd first envisioned. With the design of the stereo, I could probably look for an iPOD dock that will fit into the gutted 8-track tape player chassis. This is part of a Zenith console stereo, and I'm planning to replace the turntable with a USB turntable, and I do believe the AM/FM tuner works, so nothing needs worked on for that.
In case you're not joking...check this out. My first car, when I was in the Army (1987 to 1989) and stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, was a 1975 Mercury Grand Marquis Brougham that had an AM/FM/8-track stereo. Too bad I don't still have that car, or I'd be looking to mod that 8-track tape player to dock an iPOD.
