I would go to the strangedogs forums and check out which 6800's work and don't work. And one you find a card that is compatable, follow these instructions on how to flash the card. 6800 GT mac flash
hy... thanx...i know this guide very well..i might buy the Nvidia Geforce 6200 from mac_geniuses @eBay..for 95bucks,..what do you think..?...it has got 256MB memory and 325Mhz clockSpeed...550mhz memory GDDR2 for only 95bucks..thats a good deal....

Be weary of mac_geniuses hardware. I have heard that he is known for stealing roms from the strangedogs crew. I have a 6200 for my mac, but from everything i have heard and read, only a select few actually work right. Mine came directly from Rubytuesday and my svideo shows grayscale. That was discussed and it was the way the rom was built. As for mac_geniuses, i don't know his hardware exactly.
EDIT... That XFX card looks like mine but it is a blue board, not a black.
I believe it has to be a 6800gt. It is possible to flash a 6800gs, but its harder and requires some hacking of the 6800 rom because of the disabled pipelines. I don't think the "LE" is flashable to Mac. I have flashed several 6800gt's they are great cards. Definitely check with strangedogs.com before buying any other 6800. All of those flashed cards on ebay are way over priced. Its real easy to flash a Nvidia card.

about mac_geniuses: I bought a Radeon 9600 Pro from them for a good price. Card screams for a 9600 also. 400MHz gpu and 620MHz memory which is equal to or better vs. many current cards. Mine is a genuine Apple part though.. not flashed. anyway, i'm just trying to say that my experience with them was great.

Instead of posting tons of links for cards just go on strangedogs and look at their rom list. Find a card you like that they have a rom for then go on ebay and get the card then flash it.
If you find a 6800GT card from say MSI the ROM to a 6800GT from XFX will work. as long as the ROM can hold the flash firmware.
hy... damn.. :'(..i couldnt buy this card...he dont ship it to Switzerland and I asked him.. so i will look later...wether there's a good card for me..
As a rule, you need a card with an oversize ROM chip on it. PC cards traditionally have 32k ROMs, Mac cards have 64k ROMs. If a PC card only has a 32k chip, you cannot fit the Mac ROM on it.
If you use the regular 1.3 vcore rom You should be able to flash most 6800 GT's . I have personally flashed a BFG 6800GT OC, and PNY 6800GT. both work great. PC rom chips are 64k , mac rom chips are 128k. The 6800 Gt roms on strangdogs have been reduced to 64k . so you don't have to solder in a larger chip. Just download the newest NVFLASH from the strangdogs wiki along with the propper rom and flash in a PC.

I always avoid mac_geniuses as if it was the plague.
9 times out of 10 the hacked roms from strangedogs will work. Just keep in mind of the vRam and the GPU core.
Having bought something from practically every single Mac video card seller on ebay at least one time or another over the last 5 years (some even long since gone from ebay), I can pretty much assure anyone that Mac_Geniuses is BY FAR THE BEST! His shipping could be faster, but he knows Macs well enough to solve problems and was able to solve an installation issue for me very quickly. If I were slightly smarter, I would have realized his auction had all the pertinent installation info I needed, but oh well. Most of the other ebay sellers I've bought from either aren't even Mac users at all or they don't answer their emails as quickly or they just sell junk. Mitch answered an email within an hour! And the problem was solved in an even shorter time. And the video card is still in use today.
Not that there aren't some other good Mac ebay sellers. I've also bought from Yoyomarv and he's also a real good one, but unfortunately he doesn't sell much these days.
I've also bought from Applemacanix (way back when he was Powerbox_Technology) and he's reputable, but didn't answer my emails quickly and his only solution to a problem (that someone else eventually fixed for me) was to return the card for exchange or pay a $10 restocking fee. No tech support whatsoever other than to return/exchange the item. If you check him out at http://www.powerboxtech.com, you'll see why (click contact and you'll see his ebay name). He's a Linux company. Apparently, he just sells Mac stuff on the side and I guess he just doesn't know much outside of Linux. Sadly, that's how many Mac sellers on ebay are these days.
I've also bought from ebcwizard (back when he was honor_dj before ebay suspended him). The item worked, but not exactly as described. Once again, email contact was slow and the explanation/solution for a DVI issue on the card (it didn't work) was, well, not satisfactory. I eventually got rid of that 5200.
I don't know much about local338, but he seems to have great feedback. But, he's in Hong Kong.
I've also purchased stuff from some of the Strangedogs.proboards40.com forum moderators (Tewlboy, Rubytuesday, NVFlash, etc...) and they are without a doubt some of the sketchiest people of all (several have been suspended by ebay) and they also seem to be the same people who over and over post on different forums under different names saying not to buy from Mac_Geniuses, just like the post above. Obviously, there's some grudge match going on since none of these people who post this crap ever say they are a customer of mac_geniuses. They either make ridiculous claims that don't seem to be true or they just do one of those, pssst pssst, don't buy from him things. That is just dishonest.
And they've even given you bad advice on the best Geforce 6800 to buy to flash yourself! The Xtreme or XT 6800s won't work that I'm aware of. You need either a GS or a GT. Get the Dual-DVI XFX Geforce 6800GS if you can find one on ebay. And yes, both DVI ports work and no hacking of the rom is required to flash the GT rom on it. It won't drive a 30" Apple, but it's the best of the 6800s. Trust me, I've tried a few.
hy.. thanx .. now i ve bought an ASUS V999 TD 256.. with NV40 GPU.. now i d like to know how you have covered the pins..
with some adhesive tape i think?.. if yes...how have you done it..(cut the tape..and add some glue like on the instruction)...and does the tape hold strong on the pins?..does it scrap off or something like that?..
can you give me some tips, what way is the best to tape the pins?
thanx
Wookie

I used scotch tape. Put a strip on the whole thing, even with the top of the pins, then used a sharp x-acto to cut around the pin that needs taping. then pel off the tape you didnt need. Seems to work perfectly for me.
