Is there a way to easily change the direction of a fan? This is the model I am trying to reverse. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-AKASA-SYSTEM-A...1QQcmdZViewItem Currently, it sucks in through the circular opening, and blows out through a horizontal shape at the end. Ideally I'd like to invert it so it sucks through the outtake and blows through the hole. Is this at all possible?
Reversing the polarity will cause a DC motor to rotate it the opposite direction.... But maybe the fan blades are optimized for one direction (?) Opening it up and flipping the fan over should have the same effect... can't really picture which would work best though. Kinda hungover.

Uhh how do I reverse the polarity of the motor then?

Yeah the fan construction means that I am going to have to hack a few of them into pieces to get a functioning reversed fan one. Changing the fans orientation should be relatively easy though.
If it has a 2 wire connection, just switching them around.... I think that 3 wire connections are for making the motor direction electronically switchable, but I've never really played with one to find out. In my mind, 1 connection would be ground, and the other 2 would each get power depending on the direction, but never at the same time.

Often reversing the polarity of computer fans doesn't work, they just don't spin at all. I have a fan almost exactly like that one, and I too wanted to change it around. But the way the fan is designed i won't work.
yeah its only a two wire fan connector, hence no third control wire.
And swapping the wires round won't work for the reasons in the article I linked, mainly that there is an oscillator circuit built into the pcb board of the fan itself, and you could reverse it, you'd just have to reorder the connections of that circuit to the fan motor (as well as modifying the fans blades)
