There is a picture with some other specs I believe. There is only one thing that I dislike about my machine. The fan noise. I know that this is the average fan noise for an iMac G5 but it is still annoying after a while. When doing audio chats in iChat, friends often ask if I have an actual fan running in my room (partly due to the fact that the inter. mic is next to the vent). My question, would it be possible to replace the fan in my machine with fans from an intel iMac which I know are quieter? Or are their fans completely different? Thanks.

Humm... This is odd, My iMac g5 17 is a rev A. And the fan hardly runs at all, and when it does its very quiet. Mine was a refurb, I wonder if they changed the fan out during the refub???

Hey guys I have fixed the problem, sort of. After reading a lot of articles on the net I determined that it was possible to reduce a particular sound made by my G5. The fan noise is not necessarily quieter but there was a certain buzzing that is gone now. In the picture below, there is a highlighted part of the chassis that I believe is a housing for a fan. Now this is where it gets interesting. I opened up my machine and first tried to locate where the majority of the sound was coming from (I plugged it in and turned it on with the cover off). I simply placed my finger on x in the picture and the buzzing stopped. Interesting right? So just by applying a little bit of pressure to that piece, the buzzing stopped. When I pressed down harder, it came back. To have a constant pressure I needed to find a pad to place between that piece and the inside of the back cover. I ended up using the padding from a bicycle helmet which is in the second picture. I would really recommend trying this with your machine because just by adding a little pressure I reduced some noise. You might too!

What is makeing the buzzing sound is the bearings in the fan are too lose. Same thing happen to a GPU fan on my old gaming system. Just give it time and it will start again.
