The fan located next to the speaker in my G5 has gotten realy loud. It is 80 x 80 x 15 blows towards the pci slots and connects to the motherboard with a 4 pin connector. All of the fans Ive seen have 2 or 3 pins/reb-black/red-yellow-black.
The G5s fan wires are all black. Does any one know what each wire is, when plugged into motherboard from left to right?
If i just unpluged this fan and installed new fans to the molex power supplies connectors will i have any problems beacuase this fan is unplugged?
Is it possible to connect a 2 pin or 3 pin fan to the same motherboard connector as this fan plugs into ? Will this cause any errors or make hardware test report errors ?
Don't have those pinouts I'm afraid, but I would hazard that running an alternative fan from a molex or elsewhere will cause the unit to fail hardware tests. I doubt it would have much more effect than that, but its possible that the other fans might speed up to compensate for the percveived lack.
Ive cleaned it, it is a bit quieter, but still noisy. I havnt tried to get the motor yet, it seems almost molded to it. I ordered a replacement fan but its gonna take while to arrive. I have several artic fans now the same size but only 2 or 3 pin connectors on them, i was hoping i could use one of them but cant figure out thee 4 wires from the g5 fan.
