has anyone ever done a mod entirely out of carbon fiber? not like decals or panels here and there. i mean the real deal carbon fiber? be it a desktop or laptop, anyone? google isn't of much help, especially with all those "DIY carbon fiber macbook" links. come on guys, the pc boys have got us beat with this one.
The fact is Carbon Fiber is expensive. Just covering a case with CF is 300-400 bucks. To assemble an entire case would be very expensive, let alone the fact that a common ground would be missing. I have used it quite a bit in my mods (most of it being real, some not), and love the look. My ipod suffle is encased in CF and probably only cost 5 bucks to do. There are some PC cases coming out soon (shown at CES) that are real CF.
now i know why people settle for carbon fiber stickers...this stuff is hard to work with! but, when it's done right, its nearly indestructable (damn, too bad i didnt make a vid on thrashing carbon fiber). and yes, its very, very, very expensive to do.
to give you a hint, my mod involves a macbook pro, lots of carbon fiber, and well as steve put it "we're all born with them".
meh, the fans will run more often (heat on the outer aluminum case is residual). that takes a back seat to the fact its encased in carbon frickin' fiber
I say, you shouldn't use carbon fiber on computers ... as an avid biker, I'm trying to keep the cost of my next race bike down, and all this competition from car companies using cf is driving prices back up, so if the computer world gets in on it too, well damn. :P
