well, what are your needs? are you a student who would want to take a laptop with you to classes? or travelling much so a laptop would be good? or just trying to set up a desktop and looking for the most power you can get? if so, is expandability important?

The pricing my be different in other parts of the world, but here is my suggestion. For that amount of money, you should be able to get a PM G4 1.42DP or a PM G5 1.8. Some software (Aperture, damn you Apple) will only run on a G5 or higher, but I still say for a thousand US bucks, the MDD 1.42DP is still a best buy. You may even find one loaded up for that cost. It is also more room for upgrades. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
i have an iMac G5 at the moment but i want something more expandable , but in the uk even a PM G4 1.O still goes for 425 pounds thats alot of money for an out of date system i wanted a Pm G5 1.8 but i can't get my hands on one but i was wondering , would i feel the drop from my iMac to a Pm g4 dual 1.0 a lot?
