HELP!! I have been using my Power Book 1400cs/166 for MIDI purposes only for the last three years. I bought it used from a private party who cleared out all the memory and applications before he sent it to me. I loaded Finale and have had a wonderful experience with it since.
In August, I actually found an old Clarisworks at the school where I teach and loaded it thinking it would be good to have it handy. My 1400 is running OS8.0. Since then, the printer/modem port will not communicate to the MIDI keyboard or the printer. I get an error that reads "The modem and printer ports are already being used by another application or Apple Talk." I have since taken the Clarisworks off the computer...and no improvement. A Mac rep that I met yesterday told me to reset everything by rebooting while holding down control-alt-R-P. I did so and still no improvement.
Looks you were trying a PRAM reset. This is actually done by holding down Command-Option-P-R on start up. Hold them until the machine has chimed four or five times. This will take a couple of minnutes. If that doesn't work, you should get an OS 8 install disc and do an archive and install.
