Is it possible to get any where around 200 MHz for the FSB on a MDD fw 800? been looking into this for quite a while and haven't found anything. What originally sparked my interest was when I read about the 7448 and that it supports that bus speed. I figure it will need to be faster ram which it already has. I want to try it out on the stock processor.

Has anyone tried that though? Having no resistors in the two spots where a trio of resistors control the FSB? Two resistors is 133MHz, one is 167MHz. What is three? What is zero?
War's probably right, though. Then again, if you have either a) money to blow, or b) a spare MDD to screw with... Give it a whirl!!!

The controller in that model is pretty limited (as they all are). You may be able to bump it a bit, but it will throw off the pci slots and probably crash constantly. It is limited to only 2gb also.

That 2GB limit is odd to me. I suppose part of it was the size limit of modules at the time, or at least affordable modules. But, the G4 should be able to handle up to 4GB of physical memory, if not more. Oh, well. 2GB is plenty for most useage.
I wonder if there're replacement controllers, though meastro's musings on the different speeds screwing with the PCI slots are probably accurate. Silly computers...

Well 133 to 167 does not mess with the pci. So there must be a way to change those multipliers as well. I just want to know if any one out there has even tried it. Im not ready to be the first to take the plunge as I just bought it and haven totally paid it off yet.

There are steps for the bus just as there are steps for the cpu multiplier. Those steps (133,167) are within the stepping of the pci bus. If any of what I just said makes sense.
