So one of my many planned (and none started :p) mods for my 1ghz ti-book is adding a hi-def screen like this one http://www.macmod.com/content/view/786/221/ from the challenge. from the screen shot and info from wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerBook_G4 ), I can assume the video cards are the same, but I was wondering if anyone knows about the connection cable. Is it the same LVDS cable in the Al-book and ti-book? I'm lending the comp to a buddy right now and I'm glad to see it in use until I'm ready to start it all.

AASPs can order parts from Apple, whether they will supply them to you is at their discretion. Or see if you can find a cracked module on eBay or something. Actually most Apple repair places will have cracked displays lying about, since it happens alot and you cannot refurbish a display which is cracked.
Thanks War, according to the macrumors thread, the ti-book has a different connector than the al-book, and I may to need to halt my research unil I have my computer back and can actually get a good look at the connector. I'm hoping that I'll be lucky and be able to find a cable... the thought of trying to get pinouts and make an adapter make me shudder!

Okay here is the thing, the lvds connector on the logic board is different to the albooks but the same one the display. It could technically work but you would need to work out how the pins work on the Ti v Al. I'm not sure if the higher def actually uses anymore pins from the LB connector. The lvds cable can be got from Apple Service Providers. Your next problem will be trying to attach the display to your machine as the display is a different size to the standard one. There is no real frame for the display on the TiBooks it is supported by the hinges like on a 12" PB and the covers are just that... covers. I am very interested in seeing if you can get this to work as I have a TiBook and have been thinking of making a desktop out of it with this type of screen (a 17" actually). Good luck and I'll try and stick around if you have other Q's.
The bonus with my ti-book is that the case is already damaged!!! It functions 100% but has busted hinges, dents, missing trim around the screen, and it was a good price. the perfect machine to mod. my evil, top secret mod plans include building a completly new case... I just purchased a complete top half of a dell inspiron 9100 with the Samsung WUXGA screen. so I'm off to a good start.
