I just installed ATIccelerator on my Smurf and have boosted the GPU up 8,99% on both fronts, and was wondering what would be the best way to test the effect of these modifications, since Xbench doesn't really show any improvements (and it doesn't state GPU testing on the website :o).
How can you tell? System Profiler and InforMac only tell me that is has 16Mb of VRAM (and the ROM re- vision and so forth).
Isn't 15% quite a lot, if you consider that the Rage 128 doesn't have any heatsink at all. Well, the B&W's main 120mm fan blows directly over it, so it won't melt or anything.
I'll give it a shot at +15%, and see if it's worth the effort. Still, any way to test the GPU's increased performance?

An Ati 7000 will give you much better performance and you can get them for 20 bucks on ebay. If you can find a Radeon pci card (no number), it is the best buy for the dough. You can find it by looking at the heatsink. It has a fan built in.
Thx for the heads-up Maestro. The $20 price tag will be a little exaggerated I'm afraid, since I live in Belgium (the capital of Brussels :-p) so shipping probably will be another $20 or so. Still beats a 9200 for €190 however...
Is there a really big difference in performance between the 7000 and the 9200? Because all I'm using this Smurf for now is Photoshopping, iTunes, Web Browsing and the occasional iMovie simple edit if the G5 is taken. Keeping that in mind, I don't think it will make that much of a difference, except for the €150 price dif- ference. :-)
