Can it be done? I have an iBook G4 14" LCD inverter board, and recently picked up a free KDS 15" LCD with a blown microprocessor on the inverter board which is causing it not to work properly. I'd really like to get this thing fixed up, what can I do?
I'm not an electrical engineer, but I don't believe an inverter board should need any microprocessors. You may have a busted controller board. This will be fairly unique to your LCD, so would need a like for like replacement. Sorry, I doubt very much the iBook inverter will do the job.
If the blown board is just an inverter, it should have one connector for power and one or more similar (2 pin) connectors for the backlight(s). If it has a cable running data to the LCD (this will have quite a few pins), its a controller board.
Then I suspect you're out of luck. I replaced the inverter/controller board in my Formac LCD. Got a replacement direct from the manufacturers. Perhaps you could do the same.

<[censored] from the manufacturer. I need to find an alternate inverter that is more readily available that will work with this thing or can be modded to.
