hey all,

just wondering if a 12 inch ibook G4 can have its colour changed?  We took the top off and tried to get rid of the white paint, is it different to the 14 inch?

Thanks

i think the g4 is white plastic. so your best bets are to paint the outsides, or use a fabric dye as some have.

shocked

yes everyone is right. the g4 is white plastic whereas the G3 was paint on clear plastic.  check out this weeks tool time to go the spray paint route http://www.macmod.com/content/view/807/ OR you can use the dye technique as we saw in this years yellow ibook challenge entry http://www.macmod.com/content/view/778/221/.  If you have access to a compressed air painting system you can check out the pimp my mac modcasts and watch how John is using automotive paints on the exterior.

Would the case from an iBook G3 fit on a G4? If so it would make painting it a whole lot easier, and that way the paint would not scrape off the outside.

If your looking for more colour variation and dont have a sprayer.... Use EUROPEN GRAFFITI SPRAY BOMBS. Each of these companies have 140 or so colours, and the quality kicks the ass of anything made in North America and will be well worth the extra couple bucks.
1)do all the prep thats in the mentioned spray paint guide
2)paint surface with a spray paint formulated for plastic (like krylon fusion) as a primer. Select the colour nearest your final choice. Let dry completely.
3)skuff again and paint with Montana HARDCORE ( http://www.mtncolors.com/ ) or Belton Molow premium ( http://www.artprimo.com/belton_molotow_spray_paint.php).  MAKE SURE YOU SHAKE THE CANS WAY MORE THAN RECCOMENDED. They've been sitting on a boat for a while.
4) clear coat (I like krylon for this)

If you live in a big enough city, chance are there is a local graffiti store, or HIP HOP store that stocks them.  Choosing paint colours over the internet sucks for obvious reasons.

if I were you I would go the fabric dye route.  you will get a more uniform look that way.
