I find Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip are more than ample.

For Your DVDs you can use DVDXDV and you will nead a G4 Or G5 (or intel) to convert the Video.

If you use Mac, then Handbrake is a good choice. The above is suitable for PC users.

When going to another disc, MacTheRipper is sufficient. When going to another format, Handbrake does the job well too smile

If you want the easiest solution (that I have found) for going directly from DVD to iPod format, try HandBrake Lite, made by the same guy who made iSquint. Get it here: http://www.isquint.org/handbrakelite/.
