Well im ordering some parts online, and was thinking of getting a usb pci card for my old beige g3 (atx modded). Will any standard pc USb pci card work? The problem is it has to work in OS8 or OS9...

Hmm thats a bit expensive (i don't live in the US, so shipping would kill). And kinda weird to install a usb card that cost more than i gave for the beige g3

Go to http://www.newegg.com and type in mac and usb. You should find some in the 10-15 dollar range. Lots of companies take advange of mac owners, there is no need for seperate drivers and most of the cards are made by the same company. As far as I know, Sonnet buys parts from other companies and rebrands them (many do the same). Good luck in your search and I hope this helps.

you sure don't need to buy from a mac specific dealer.. ANY pci usb card will work. I have put the most generic cards in mac towers and they worked perfectly. the ones I have used all showed up as apple hardware in sys prof.
they call it universal for a reason.

If you're working with old beige hardware, keep in mind that some older beige and newer USB cards have a tendency to not always be compatible. Our luck in shop has probably been 2 in 5 work, 3 in 5 just lock up in OS 9 and earlier, with the card installed. (thats with multiple different cards, btw)
So bear that in mind when you order, and keep the receipt if it doesnt work!
