Hi Guys, I finally talked the IT guys into letting me use my ibook in the office, the thing is I need to hook up to a SMB server (windows). I go to finder>go>connect to server and it doesn't work. If I go to the network browser I can connect to the server but the shared folder I need to access is a hidden folder, and thus it does not show in the available shared folders list. the folder name is "comercial$" is that "$" giving me the trouble? how can I overcome this? I can't deal with wintel!!! help!
thanks!
ps. bluetooth kb and mouse are here, logicb should arrive on sunday, i'll be modding soon!!
You can connect via apple-K if you type smb:// before the IP or host name. You can therefore type the path to your hidden folder when you connect. Or you could try navigating there via the terminal once you have mounted the share.
If none of that works, its the $. Though its usually windows which struggles with filenames.
Just created a folder called "$". No trouble at all.
i do type smb... when trying to connect from apple-k, and it says something like the server timed-out. I can mount the share from the network browser but can't find the hidden folder "comercial$". do you know the steps to do it from terminal?
You can use script editor to save it as a standalone application. You can also see the terminal commands in that script. You will probably have to relaunch the Finder when you run those though.
