so i have this e machine laying around that i thought about getting it running and selling it. Everything seems to be running good except i have a OS failure. I thought i would put Windows XP on it but i know nothing about DOS. Does anyone know how i get it to begin setup of the OS from the CD i have? or does anyone know how to load the dang OS. If i dont figure it out soon im gonna rip the fan out of this thing and use it for my mac, and sell the hard drive on ebay.
You need to boot into the BIOS (Sometimes called 'setup' or similar). It should tell you how when it boots normally. Usually involves pressing a key at a specific time during boot. Often the F1 key. Once in BIOS, you need to tell the PC to boot from its optical drive. Under the ATA or IDE setup page, though precise nomenclature varies from machine to machine. Follow the instructions after that to install a new OS.
