Reset the PMU. Remove battery, unplug and press the little red button on the side near the ports. Hold it in for at least 30 seconds, then try to boot.
Well if its the video chip the board will boot but won't display anything, If thats the case you should hear the hard disk spin up at least. Either way te board is most likely toast. You can try to get apple to fix it under the recall, but they will only do that if its the video chip and nothing else. Lucky that board is pretty cheap on ebay....
i had the same problem with my 500 dual usb, if I pressed REALLY hard on the heatsink i would get a startup souund but that was it, got a new board on ebay, it works great. make sure you get all the info on the new board from the seller, i wanted 128 ram and only got 64 .
i heard somewhere that you can swap boards between the g3 500, 600, 700 and 800 ibooks
