As I begin another mod I find myself at a perplexing cross roads. I want to use an ATX power supply in a PowerMac G4 Digital Audio. The problem is obiviously the 22/28v connection. Fact is, I dont need to use it. What I am wondering is if it will boot and run fine with out it? Anyone who has any idea lemme know!
Lots of lookers but no reply eh? Well I have figured out the pin conversion using a 24 pin atx psu and it should work just fine. As for the ADC wire, who knows. Im not going to use that port anyway so everyone keep their fingers crossed for success!
I was always under the impression that the 28v was purely for ADC. According to my trusty PSU hacking site it also does something to the power management systems:
Thanks for the heads up! That will help alot. Unfortunately, the author of that site does not explain much about the specs of his power brick and whether it needs to be turned off or on with the mac. Ill shoot him an email.
I am doing simmilar right now and the 28v is indeed necessary for booting. BUT... not all 28v! i am using 12v on the 28v line and it boots and runs fine.other than powering ADC monitors that is.

I heard too that a machine can boot from 12V on the 28V line but at the same time, without the 28V for the ADC and the Firewire, i don't know. If anyone has more info on this, it would be great for upgrading the Gigabits and up. I know someone right now that would love to have a 600W in his Quicksilver...
Thanks for the replys. I toasted the mother board and the cpu in some sick ass ocing. Oh well. I got an GB Eth. to replace it. OCing can be dangerous and you must be willing to break stuff....or make it smoke like burnt toast! >:D roflmao
