Just picked up a brand spanking new G5 case. Question is what to do with it. Its completely empty apart from a couple of SATA cables and the perspex sound baffler. I don't think I can get an Xserve in there, but I'll do some measuring and see.....
I had thought of that actually. Don't fancy the update issues though. When I asked for it, I was kinda hoping they would give me an old dead G5 and hopefully there would have been a couple of working parts in it. Not that I'm disappointed with my brand new empty case. It still has the plastic on it and everything. I guess I'll just wait for some parts to turn up at work. So I may build a G5 in it out of unwanted parts, or maybe I'll fit something else in there. Something is bound to show up going spare sooner or later. Especially when we start doing warranty repairs....
Maybe an iMac G5 logic board. Or maybe I'll build my 2nd G4 Xserve in there (it would have to boot from firewire, but given the price of drive modules).....
