I have a 500mhz powermac g4 processor and want to convert my g3 B&W to a g4 using the processor and a compatable mother board i plan to buy. I also want to know if i can use the front button board on the G3 to power on the g4 motherboard any help will be greatly appreciated

It depends on the motherboard.
Is the processor a ZIF, from the first G4 (Yikes)? If so, you can install it on the G3's board and go from there. They share the same architecture. If it's a daughtercard from the first AGP G4 (Sawtooth) and you have the Sawtooth logic board to match, the power supply will work fine. However, the next generation up (Mystic AKA Gigabit Ethernet) will need a different power supply as well as a different front panel, unless you still use the B&W keyboard, which has its own power button.

You can convert the front panel board from the blue&white to work witha sawtooth board. You need to get a little creative, but it can be done. If I can dig up the info I will show you what I did. Let me know if its indeed a sawtooth mainboard.;)
