Well after starting Rev. 2 of the Mac Orb and finding out how slow it is with folding I decicded I'd try an overclock. My dilema is this: on the site that I found the instructions the resistor chart has different resistor numbers than mine. Although my reisistors are in the correct spot for 800Mhz which is what my iMac is doing. Should I match up the resistors and try overclocking using that chart or shuold I just keep dreaming? Thanks!
What CPU # is it. That will give you an idea of how far you can go. You may want to figure in a better cooling solution ie: better, higher rate fan, and arctic silver on the chip. I tried the site and it was a dead end. -maestro
Try this Link then. Just click iMac on the left then click on the link under tune up of iMac flat. Mine is a 7450 v. 2.1. Mactracker says that the 1Ghz models, the model after mine, are 7455 v. 3.3. Also i'd love to put a new heatsink in but it has a very wierd design. I'll try and post a pic in a minute. That is a good suggestion about the arctic silver. I'll have to pick some up and see if that works.

Here is a pic of the heatsink. Hope its big enough. It works by taking heatpipes and connecting them to the chassis, turning the whole chassis into a big heatsink. I would take some temp readings on it but the thermometer I installed during the mod is on the fritz and I was stupid enough not to tape it to the heatsink. I might get around to fixing it later tonight though.
Edit: GAAA I hate this image uploader. Post edited by: Draconis, at: 2005/12/20 00:03

You need to make sure it is not too big. I think you need to use Firefox, not sure. I do know its a heatpipe design. No matter though, you can use anything that will fit, which may be nothing. -maestro
No, there is absolutly no way to by a new repalcement heatsink because of size restraints. I can't even put a second fan in there. BTW does my new link work?
P.S. the image thing still won't work. There might be a pic of it in my mod guide though.
Ok, I saw the site and your mod guide. The boards look the same. Are you sure the resistors are in different locations? Hmmm. That seems odd. Double check. Anyway, Arctic silver will lower temps a couple of degrees which will help. The sink stays im guessing. I would replace the fan though. Are you concerned about noise? You could use a Vantec Tornado, they are hi speed but very noisey. Try Panaflo or Verax for one that is quiet.
Thats almost my problem, the resistors are in the same location and set up correctly for 800 Mhz, they are just numbered diferently. I can still correspond them to the chart but the problem is will that chart work for my imac? I'm thinking it should as my imac also has a 100Mhz bus just like the one in the guide. Yes, I am concerned about noise as occasionally people will sleep in the room with it. I'll will to look into a new fan, although, even with PWM, this fan is pushing a decent amount. Thanks for all your help so far BTW.:)
