so, the video posted on the main page got me thinking. Some of us in tech and hardware positions are capable of certain things. We can do more than mod stuff. We can take the broken stuff, and break it MORE.
What happens when you throw a slot loading iMac off the top of a 6 story parking deck?
What happens when you pull the heat sink out of a running G4.
Is cream cheese a good thermal compound for an old powerbook?
Does everyone see where I'm going with this? As a tech for an apple service provider, I have tons of junk that we usually take to the dump, or just throw away. I usually dont think twice about it, but now I'm starting to think I need to let loose my inner destructive child, and see what happens when I try to break something for the video camera.
Here's my suggestion. I've got the stuff for the processor video, and I've got several imac's just waiting to play with gravity. does anyone else have any stellar ideas for stupid stuff we could do in the name of stress testing? Run with this thread, and lets see where it goes.
oooOOOOOO one last thought. I need to find a way to take a plugged in and running iMac, with a ton of extension cord, and toss it into a pool. heh, yeah. that would rule!
One could also empty one of those compressed air cans into the back of a bubble imac. the contents would plasma ball!
the best part of this? I'm so not gonna get fired. My boss will be all about this.

I saw a site a while back where they wired up all sorts of computer connectors to a wall outlet. Then they plugged it into a computer and watched the sparks fly literally .Perhaps something like that? If you want i think I can find the link. I love the compressed air idea BTW.

I wonder how long an imac would run if you filled it with that spray foam insulation stuff. And also, the throwing into the pool would be a great start to a macquarium, if you'd considered making one. and on a side note, remember to unplug the extension cord from the wall before you go to retrieve the imac...

ok, Fill an aquarium or other large clear container with mineral oil, plop an imac in with a brick on top and have the first liquid cooled crt imac! I'll kick in a little to help buy the oil...
( I've heard its non-conductive)

heh, this thread has been around for a while. Its fun to see it pop up now and again. For the record, things have been busy in many other directions, but I'm still acumulating stuff for this topic. I have spare G4 processors that I'm going to blow up, imacs that need imploding, and so on. As for soundmans spray insulation idea, pure brilliance. I hadnt thought of that. I didi however want to fill one with epoxy and see what happened. the carnage there could be intense.
My brother-in-law had a good idea to fill one with sky rockets or maybe strings of firecrackers, and see what happened. I'd also like to try smoke bombs. Oh, the humanity!

Well of course, I'd like to destroy windows boxes. But how many things can I do to a generic tower before it gets old and boring?
When the navy and Marine Corps retired the F-4 Phantom, they kept a large number of them around. They rewired the planes with remote controls. Now they send them up remotely and let pilots learning combat tactics blow them out of the sky. What better way for an honored warrior to go down?
The way I see it, I have a lot of old mac stuff in my shop. Rather than throw it away, why not send it out with a bang?
muhahahahahahaha!
