So I've increased the RAM in my system to a gig, and dropped in an ATI 9600 XT with the AGP mod.
Now, I'm really tempted to try and make the jump from a 1Ghz 'dualie' to the dual 1.42 (that big L3 cache is callin' me!), assuming I can find one. Some questions, then: -Is the dual 1.42 G4 just a drop-in replacement on 167Mhz G4 MDDs? -Where would you guys look, and what should I expect to spend?
The only problem about aftermarket cpu's for the 167Mhz Power Macs is that, well, the only option seems to be a now-discontinued DP 1.33Ghz card from Giga; I've heard it wasn't all that good out of a lack of an L3 cache.
I've been in touch with them, though, and they claim they're hoping to have something out by the end of the year. May be they'll be using the 7448 that I keep hearing about?
A fellow on ebay who I emailed said he'd give me a DP 1.42 for $450 with a 1 month DOA. Is that too good to be true?
