After sitting at my mom's office for a while, the G4 case I bought off eBay is finally in my possession. Other than some scuff marks and minor scratches and cracks, it appears to be in fairly good condition. I'm looking into slipping an Athlon 64 system into it for gaming. Considering that this will be the case I show off at LAN parties and such, I was thinking of giving it a new paint job. I'm very open to ideas, so let 'em fly. Although I'm not so fond of lighting and windowed side panels, that remains a possibilty as well. Mainly what I'm after here is something cool-looking, eye-catching, but not so distracting as to take one's mind off of gaming (which isn't that easy to do anyway). In short, a good piece of eye candy.
I'm also thinking of adding at least one fan to the top of the case and replacing the front speaker with a fan. Considering the rather cramped space inside the case and the rather meager ventilation system, I think this is really a must. I noticed that on the "blowhole" mod guide, the plastic cover had been removed from the top. I am hoping to be able to keep the plastic there. What would be the best technique for cutting through this plastic? Or should I just make little round holes in circular patterns where the fans are screwed into the metal chassis?
One final question... Is the HD bracket on the bottom of the case?

The cooling in them is not too bad actually, but not good for your amd. I suggest you come up with a new cooling system, besides just adding fans. It requires hard drive sleds and im guessing they arent there. Just make one for it. I think the G4 cases are cool oem, maybe just leave it, dont forget to take the apples off. -maestro
I am on a rather limited budget, so if I can find a liquid cooling system that will fit and that fits that budget, I will certainly consider it. Nevertheless, ventilation would still be a problem. Is anyone interested in the speaker, by the way? I can test it in my dad's PM, I think...
In terms of removing the Apples, I thought about it, but then against it, because it would require some major work that neither I nor my "team" would be up to. Besides, I like the Apple logo. One thing I could do, I suppose, is put a Windows (bleh...) logo inside the side Apples. Doing that for the tiny front Apple would be more trouble than it's worth.
Will the power/reset/something else (what is that other button for?) buttons be able to interface with the mobo, or will I have to get a different controller? I suppose I'd like to replace the original LED with a blue one as well.
Will a floppy drive fit into the ZIP drive cage? The slot should line up fine with the one on the cage, but there would need to be a hole made for the eject button.

I have a USB floppy drive from my purple iMac days that I took apart. It has some kind of weird connector, but maybe I can get the right kind of adapter for it to work. It fits with plenty of room to spare. Is anyone interested in the USB case (which I won't need, unless I find some use for it)? It's clear on the bottom and opaque green on the top.

I've done this mod a few years ago now and its a great mod.
Bare in mind there will be some issues with the motherboard and the cd drive bay as they will hit each other when using a pc motherboard (Even a matx one)
The hdd bays are at the base of the case yes .
If you want to see how I did mine here's the work log http://www.gordyhand.co.uk/main.php?page=badapple there are a few things I would do differently if I did it again but thats always the way with modding hehe
I've also done a cube conversion and I've just bought a g5 case to do another one. It will make my powerbook jealous
