I'm probably wrong since the only external dive i've worked on was tearing it apart, but the controller chip might not be able to handle 160gb. It could still have that issue of only seeing about 120gb. I forgot what that porblem is called though. BTW if the controller can handle it it looks like you could fit a second hard drive in there :cheer: .

Its got to be the IDE controller you used, never heard of it happening to an external drive but then I have not had much experience with large (120gb+) drives. Older ATA controllers don't recognize drives larger than 127gb. The 127 number cannot be a coincedence. By the way very nice job, that is an instant classic!
Weird - I was just about to say that it's cuz HD manufacturers call 1 GB 1000 bytes, while programmers call 1 GB 1024 bytes (2^10). And so there is always a discrepency between what you're told and what you get, but then I checked my 160 and I have 152.55. And now doing 160,000 / 1024 on my calculator I get 156.25. So we'll just say the man is screwing us.

well there are formatting blocks used, you have partitions maybe, you have to store the data tables, plus you have the 1024 effect as well. All of that gives you the remaining disk allocation.

Its the old 128GB size limit. Which is a consequence of the IDE controller. Most old Macs have this problem on their internal busses. MDD was the first tower without it.
