A friend of mine was recently using his G5 pretty hard (exporting a video from FCP, editing a picture on Photo Shop, browsing, aim, and a few other apps running) when the computer froze. He said he restarted it and then on restart, it froze if he tried to open any application. Any ideas on what to do?

1. Prelim Check: - Are you running any OS-enhancing software? That could be the only problem. Refer to step 2. - Have you replaced any system files? Another common problem. - Are there any bad connections inside the machine? Things can get jiggled out of place.
2. If you are using Unsanity's Application Enchancer: - Disable all of its features temporarily for one login by holding down the shift key at startup. The next time you login, however, it will begin functioning again.
3. If none of the above helped: - Try booting from disc and reinstalling the OS. I've had to do this a couple times because of mucking around with stuff. If I were you, I'd keep the mucking to a strict minimum. That always helps. - Remember: You'll need to customize the install to "Archive and Install" without the "Preserve Users and Settings" option enabled. Don't worry, all of your user info will be saved in a folder called "Previous Systems" on your startup disc.
