With a standard ATX motherboard and power supply it is possible to start the computer by jumping the +5sb (purple) lead to any ground. I have a vfd/ir that functions this way inside my mac (see the silvertooth mod guide) and I have been unsuccessful in making the computer start with the remote.
Does anyone know which pin on the power supply cable, when given juice (3.3v or 5v), causes the computer to boot?
The ir panel attaches to +5sb (purple) and a grnd at the power supply.
The IR device needs to jump the pins for the front panel control, rather than the power supply. Its the small 10 pin connector in the upper left side of the board, jump the pin labled power to the ground and you should be good to go!
Ooooh, I see. You could use your mind, with like brain waves. -maestro
Maybe I am not doing this correctly. I look at the computer, point with right index finger, and think 'boot'. Nothing happens. I tried to think 'different' but now my head hurts.

I am building a htpc around the lc16m by silverstone. It has a vfd/irbuilt in and includes a remote. While not critical, I would like to boot from the remote so I don't have to leave my chair to turn on the case. It is a matter of convenience and I can show it off to anyone who comes by. My soldered front panel works fine. I can boot using the power button on the case but the documentation says it is possible to boot with the remote. I emailed silverstone tech support and they confirmed that it should work.
Because atx and sawtooth power connectors are different I did not know if it would work or not. After being unable to get it working I posted here. The ir panel connects to the power switch and then to the power switch header on the motherboard. There is also a connector that attaches to the +5vsb and ground on the power supply. I do not know if this last connector is to provide extra power to the vfd/iror if it is intended to start the computer.
I have a voltage meter and I have verified that the power supply and g4 to atx headers are the right voltages.
