I have a old powerbook g3 that a company discarded the screen works fine but the battery and hard drive are fried i was wondering if any one knows how to turn this thing into an external screen(vga). what i would like to do is slim it down and put inside a g4 sawtooth I got from this same company.

ps i have about 20 of these g4s this company near where i live just set them out by the dumpster most of them were striped internally but 4 of them we still loaded and in good condition i combined some parts to make one that has 2g ram 180gig 450mhz

and yes i got all 20 of them

Well, not sure about that screen, but, uh, I was wondering about those stripped cases. Would you be willing to sell them to others? I am in the market for a case, and I just love those G4s. If I bought one from you, I could pay for the shipping and everything. I think a fairly reasonable price for a case like that would be, say, $60-70 + S&H. (P.S.: Are they all the "Sawtooth/Gigabit Ethernet" models? Or are there some "Yikes!" or "Quicksilver" or "Mirrored Door?")

Sorry, jahue, but no one has ever been able to get that to work. It's actually far more difficult than one might initially believe.

On another note, you may want to try to replace the hard drive and turn the laptop into some sort of car-computer-multimedia-device, the G3 works great as one.

come on some one has tried i know its hard but surly it can be done

about selling the cases i might but i have stored them temporarly at my family home (not enough space in my apt ) and it will be at least christmas before i go home

Anyway... As for the screen, I have been trying to do similar things for a long time, i keep getting people's broken laptops with expencive screens... What I would sugest is find the manufacturor of the plug intake on the logic board of the laptop. I would then find the company or a good suplyer, and see if they have a convertor premade for it. If not, you're gona have to make one. Being a newbie at sodering and such, check with one of the more... knoldgible pplz.

The data pinouts for LCD panels vary from model to model. Very few are plug and play interchangeable. The output from the laptop logic board is therefore custom designed to work with the panel chosen for it.

The only way you can do this without spending silly time/money on it (and you'll need a degree in physics or engineering or something like too) is to find an external screen which uses the same panel, then find a broken one of those and nab the converter from it.

I like that idea... Also would you mind posting some of your 60 Macs in the trading post?
