Ok, I have never painted a Apple system or a plastic case before. I have here a iMac I want to paint to make it match my PCs. The color theme I use is Black and Red.What is the best way for paint to stick to plastic? Do I use primer then do a light sanding then go with 2 coats of color then a coat of finish or what? I'm use to using car paint on cases since I mostly paint ATX cases that are metal. I don't want to end up having paint cipping off on me lol. Oh, also what is the best thing to use to clean the caseing before prep?

Heres my idea for the paint scheme.
Paint the facing (striped part around the monitor) red then use a black crackle finish. the rest of the case is going to be black. The apple logo will be painted gold and red. Red on the apple and gold on the stim of the apple. I'm thinking to replace the speaker covers with a black cloth that has a red tint in it.Also i'm thinking to change the LED on the power switch to red or maybe even change the whole switch out with a skull logo on it. Also paint on the front where it says iMac to say Evil iMac or Bad Apple.

Just go buy plastic spray paint. You can find it at any major department or hardware store.
It works pretty good too. I use it on all of my computer mods.

The best way to give an imac a paint job is to take the case of and paint on the inside of the case this is good as then the paint dosent scarcth off easlly and it also looks very efective. good luck

If you're gonna use aerosols, this would be my process. Hit the auto parts store. Pick up a can or two of gray etching primer, a black you like, and some red you like, a can of clear top coat, fine grade sand paper (600-800 grit), and some good masking tape.

take computer apart. lightly sand all the parts. Hit them with one -two coats of primer. Lightly sand the primer to smooth it out. Mask and spray your colors. 4-8 light coats will get a good even result and avoid running and clumping. Once dry, 3 odd coats of clear. then let it dry for 24-48 hours. Then reassemble.

That may be more intense than you want to get, but awesome results are worth the extra steps

Thing is I would paint the inside but how do I get rid of the blue plastic color? I also mix my own paint and have tons of primer left over from my last paint job. Heck I could always color sand and polish it too.

hate to break it to you, but you cant get rid of the blue plastic color. the plastics are molded in that color. So, if it's blue, its always gonna be. Only way to get around it is to paint the outside.

Mod is right. On the earlier macs, the colors are mixed into the plastic. He knows his sh!t,
follow his painting instructions.

You could try leaving the case in the sun for a while this will then (very slowly) fade the color away.
