Up to 2.5GHz? Not quite fast enough is it. Unless Apple plan to introduce a single chip dual core G5 to replace the 1.8 they got rid of recently. Though I heard they did that so they could have more chips available for the iMacs.
On the other hand, is that 2.5 with just ordinary air cooling? I believe the fastest air colled 970FX runs at 2.3GHz. And goes to 2.7 when you water cool it. That means a water cooled dual core could reach 2.9GHz......Could it finally hit 3?
These are lower power cpus, so I guess with some water cooling they could hit 3Ghz. Ghz really doesnt matter anymore. With duel cores on two chips, you can run some serious multithreaded software. Yeah, it may be too late, but if these go into Macs they should kick some serious ass. If I were Steve, I would be having seconds thoughts. Whatever happens, Apple's future looks pretty good. -maestro
