If you got the Mac Minis logic board out of the case, and did away with the HD and optical drive, The whole thing would be pretty small. By my reckoning, you could fit eight of them into a case the same dimensions as the Xserve G5.
If you bought complete Minis, it would cost more than an Xserve, but I wonder sort of throughput you could get from it. Just using the 100-Base T ethernet connections.
I reckon it would make a pretty good render farm or something....

Actually, a lot of companys are offering hosting on imac mini's. eg. http://www.macminicolo.net/ & http://www.xrackhosting.com
