Im able to get my hands on a imac 350mhz logicboard with down converter (see img below).
I am planning on doing an ATX mod. I don't need video out, as i am planning on using it as a headless server.
I have a b&w powermac g3 case with a dead logic, and live PSU. Is it easier to fit the imac to an mac supply than to an ATX? It would be great to get some use out of the old b&w...
Im not sure if the down converter makes things easier or not?
(If everything fails, i have an imac which misses a new logicboard.)

They are pretty much the same, so it's up to you. Many of the guides, though, are made for ATX. If you want to take the time and measure and make a guide, that would be great.

The Down Converter is only used when you have it in an iMac w/ the Analog board. Since you are going w/ a power supply, the D.C. is removed and the pins where it was at on the logic board is where the P/S goes.

I would mount the B&W board in the case it is meant for. Then mod the case
Once you get the iMac board, get another case. Make one or find something else to use as a case. Make a case out of an old HeMan castle and call it "Castle iGreySkull" or something like that. Actually, that would be pretty cool!
Some extra info for the iMac PSU mod. All you really need is a 220w ATX P/S for that iMac board, so you can get one of the mini-ATX PSU's to save space. Also, you might want to see if you can get the cords that come from the CRT cap to the video on the board. It will make the ATX P/S mod a lot easier because you have to do some soldering to get the video to work at full strength (even if you have a VGA port).

Actually, the b&w case is modded a bit. It's painted black (from inside), and has transparent "g4" logos on the sides. I just never finished it, as the logic board failed...
But i was planning on adding LED's between the metal case, and the plastic. Thought glowing "g4" logos would look nice
(it's a g4 logo because i have a 400 mhz g4 upgrade for it, and g4 sounds more cool than g3)

case looks pretty sweet, now if you can get that board in there working, you will be set. Have you thought about changing the aqua colored pieces to match the rest of the case?

Yeah i was planning on painting it white. But as i said, i never finished it, and it has been banished to my closet since the logic-board failed... (i havent done the front yet eighter)
I was toying with another idea for the apple logos. I think it's possible to remove the blue color from the back, and make them transparent (as far as i remember, i accidentially scraped some of the blue color off).
Might also add a better effect if the logo is painted from the back.
I took pictures all the way through my mod, as i was planning on doing a guide. If i get it to work again ill complete the guide and post it.
