My 3rd party battery (a Newertech 4800mAh - bought from OtherWorldComputing - link ) has treated me really well. I'd reccomend them to anyone. I've been running it on my Clamshell for... oh, 6, 7 months now with no problems. Wish I had somethign to say about the Panasonics, but I don't have one. The iBooks (mine is a 366 Paris revision) don't seem to care much about it being a non-Apple battery.
you shouldn't have any problems with it, batteries arn't made by apple anyway. Chances are the lithium ion, or whatever it is, comes from the same company for the panasonic that apple uses. If not, I am sure that it would be a pretty good company, Panasonic has a pretty good reputation for quality. At least you didn't go with an off brand
