Hi@all, My Imac G3 233Mhz has a defect on it Audio/Video-Bord. Are you know a guidance that discribes the repaering of the A/V-Board! Or are you know a alternative one to save my Imac!
Well, when I power my Imac on the apple-sound comes, and the monitor is black and in a few seconds the Imac shut off. But wehn I´m plug of the monitor-cable (15pin) in the Imac, the Imac boats and works without the Monitor (naturally ). And I made a vga-connector for the apple monitor-output. The Imac runns perfect with a externelly monitor.
I say recase the imac, so you can use an external monitor, I just finished mine up and I'll be posting YAIAM (yet another imac atx mod) soon, it is actually very easy, you just need to have a new house for the logic board and some soldering skeelz. Also there are numerous tutorials on how to do it.

On a rev. A you can take the 15-pin DBA to a VGA adaptor and call it good...but that's weak. Convert it to ATX and pop it into a proper case, or shell out some cash and get the Analog board since the flyback is out and mod the case into oblivion.
The choice is yours

A lot of CRT iMacs 'died' when the firmware got corrupted and they seemed to forget that they could drive a CRT (happened a lot to people who tried to load OS X on iMacs with old firmware I think).
Not sure this applies to your model but If you can attach an external monitor and control the iMac, you may want to try the firmware updates
