I dont know how many they have in stock, but macresq has the casing for the G5 available at $299. It doesn't include a power supply, but does include all the exterior parts as well as internal mountings.

There's been lots of talk about pc into G5 and G4 into G5 conversions so this might be your chance to pick up a case at a reasonable price.

here's the link http://www.macresq.com/store/detail.php?prodID=P010275

I would really really really love to get one for my nix box, but I can't rationalize spending 300 dollars on one. Maybe 200, but not 300.

But, man would I love to have one! wink

I'd rather spend the money on a cube and mod that. The G5 case is sweet, but that's expensive as all hell. You get what you pay for.

To be completly honest you don't have to pay a cent for a G5. All you need to do is spend some time on the phone calling 3rd party mac resellers and repair shops. When a fan or powersupply dies they often just give the customers new assemblies with their old mainboard in it and chuck the leftover case. yes chuck as in throw out, 86, send to the trash can. Thats how I got mine. I jerryrigged my g3 in it and I plan on posting it for the mod contest this weekend.

uber actually happens to be rather correct. certain internal G5 components are hardwired into the enclosure. In some cases, apple replaces the entire enclosure. If you were to try and buy one stock, you'd pay over 5-600 for them. (actual cost) Luckily, we service providers arent required to send the damaged/defective cases back. So, we end up with them from time to time. Contacting an apple authorized service provider or specialist might yield you a case but I wouldnt get my hopes super high. We dont see them that often. Since the G5 shipped, I've seen three. Ironically, two of which are in the proces of becoming my G5 coffee table.

But, if you really want one, it never hurts to call around smile

heh, I might be talked into that. no promises on when it'll happen though. it's catch as catch can. I waited months to get the two I've got. Course, I'm painting flames on them, but thats what I do smile Hopefully they'll come out as good as my Blue & White G3 flame job did.

And yeh, jacob may want one, but barter and trade works. Hell, at the moement I'm wishing I had a spray booth and access to some really good clear coat. My garage and aerosols arent the best. Course, if I can come up with another gravity gun and some inexpensive clear, we may be in buisness smile See, it's all about that perfect show car style finish. Computers should look as good as classic hot rods. So there.
