I´m wondering if someone out there has resources on what I can do with an iMac besides switching harddrives? Is there an headless mod out there or something. I love my eMac but I want to give him a facelift...
Now this would be mad. The emac, looks to be covered in the same paint as the ibook and the graphite airport. If you can use paint remover (99% isopropyl prefered/alcohol) you can remove all of the paint from the casing and it would be clear! At this point you could put some blue leds inside of the emac, and you would have a mad mod! Take a look through the mod guides to get an idea on how to do some of these mods. There arn't any emac mods on the site yet, and I haven't seen any at all, but this would be cool, and you could say that you are the first. Please be sure to keep us updated and post the mod guide here if you decide to do it!

I can see it now!!! That would be "the Ultimate iSticks/iSub companion mod" OR if you paint the sticks and sub from the inside(the eMac/iBook/Airport are painted from the inside right??)with white!!! Thanks for the inspiration oojacoboo, now to see if I can find some documents, servicemanuals or such things to get this thing going. First I´ll flip a coin...
That sounds good realb, just keep in mind that with it clear, you open the doors to many mods, and doing that on an emac, shouldn't be too hard. You would of course have to disassemble most of it, making sure you note all the parts and positions, then take the panels, soak them in alcohol, then wipe clear and put back together, you can always add leds later if you like. This also opens the door to a semi transparent color of an emac as well. Check out the painted ibooks mod for info on that. Anyway, seems like there are alot of options and I haven't seen anything like this, so its would be cool indeed. If you pull it off, I can promise you a mod of the week post for sure!

Well the idea was good, but I am hearing that the emac is painted like the new ibooks and the plastic is actually white, instead of the underside being painted. Check this out and see. I could be wrong. You could still pain the outside of the case, or the inside of the isticks if you like. Keep us posted.

Yes, but when I hear leds, I think PC and an old Ford Escort with to much milage turned into a disco-from-hell by the son who got it cheap from his mother... in other words: cheap. If there is something old in modding, of cars and computers, it´s leds and such things. The guy who fixed his iBook with fiber-optics took the idea beyond the christmas-tree concept. I hope though that there are more people out there who will get their hands on their eMacs. They´re cheap, if something goes wrong it´s not that expensive to replace (it´s a lot of money, oh yes, but not as much as other new Macs...)
I know exaclt what you are saying with the cheap thing. I don't think that leds are great for mods. However, if done tastefully it can look ok. Have you seen the G5 pics with the blue led inside? Those don't look that bad. However, I don't know that I would want that in my computer either. But there are many people out there that do. To each his own. This is just something that came to mind. If you mess it up, it can always be a kick ass fish tank!

Oh, I´m to slow, my answer took to long to write, I missed your post about the plastic being white... *sigh* Well I´ll try with the sticks then... I think they´re going to blend in perfectly in my home office. --- I´m amazed how fast I got a reply in the first place! This place is going to grow fast with this kind of dedication. Me Like.
