The development of money in China reflects the country's long and diverse history, with each new dynasty signaling political and cultural change. Tracing the history of money in China shows how the country has evolved from using the barter system to its current, sophisticated use of paper currency.

Correct it is haggling
Yes they do set prices all countries do but I been to many Chinese markets here in China town and they all seem to haggle with the owners , heck I even seen them haggle over the price of a bowl of soup , where as in Wall*Mart you won't see that if at all .
I am not trying to argue , just suggesting that might be a reason for the extreme high price since haggling is what they like too do ?
Anyway I agree the price at 1,000 is way to high . I would have thought that Apple has some control over pricing like "suggested retail price" but I guess not ?
LOL... and I am not arguing either... mere suggesting that China is not on the barter system as you wrote... And she wasn't in a retail store either... more like a open market place... I would bet she couldn't get that price lowered in a Chinese retail establishment. And, yes, they have rretail stores in China. http://images.google.com/images?client=s...l=en&tab=wi
