so, i just received my Windows 7 upgrade DVD. i am curious what i'll need to use this. i currently have Windows XP installed using my old copy of XP that was part of my Virtual PC disk. do i just need my authorization code for XP or am i going to need an actual XP disk for this installation to prove i have XP? and, if it's the disk itself then with the version on Virtual PC disks work? i realize Virtual PC is pretty old school, but it's allowed me to have a free standing copy of XP that gets authorized by Microsoft for many years now. TIA.

(and yes, i realize the Boot Camp doesn't officially yet support Windows 7)

i saw that article and i'll probably wait until Apple gets Boot Camp to fully support this. however, i am still curious as to whether i just need my XP authorization serial number, which i have . . . or whether i need an XP installation disk to do this upgrade.

When I installed W7 upgrade from XP (I Use Parallels rather than BC), it did not ask for an original XP disk... only checked to see if the app was present.

thanks. i think i'll still wait until boot camp officially supports W7 because i have no need to use Windows in the next month or so and then the update should be ready. i had the beta of W7 installed on my Macbook using Parallels, but it's expired. now my Parallels is only used for Ubuntu, which i enjoy more than Windows anyway. heh.

meh. i went ahead and just stuck the Windows 7 upgrade disk in. it never asked for XP serial key or install disk. i guess it just saw that it was already installed even though i was doing a clean install over that old XP installation.

i quickly downloaded Google Chrome and i am enjoying Windows 7 quite a bit. i added various Adobe plugins and Quicktime and iTunes. i think this might be the first Windows OS that doesn't cause me to openly scowl. heh.
