Of all the numbers to generate the original graph there is only one that is total guess. "Market Share". This is special guesswork when talking about computers.
It's not what you think. It is all about numbers. Microsoft Windows runs the world. Runs back offices and call centers and servers and farms and all the rest of the boring 45,000 computer purchases at a time. Apple is a tad opposite. A real personal computer for photography, graphics, biology (I throw that in since my wing of molecular biology is all Mac) stuff like that.
If I looked at that graph and I was Balmer and saw the truth I would puke. Microsoft is doing a long slow death spiral. Hopefully it wills till fulfill its duty of market share to fill in all those boring niches. Apple would suck if it started having to fill those niches. Look for a new up and coming computer company to fall in love with if they do. As microsoft goes so goes Apple. If.
