With Handbrake, is it as simple as using the iPhone preset and firing away? Or do you have any recommendations for tweaks to make a better iphone-friendly film format?

Yeah, worked fine in the end. It's pretty eyeball-breaking watching a whole film so close up, though. But the subtitles were very, very sharp compared to watching it on my mac, which is interesting.
