Especially if you are elderly and are my client (or related to one).
8 days ago, one of my favorite but smallest clients — a 72 yr old character that runs a wonderful bakery and pastry shop — had not one but two strokes which left her entire right side paralyzed! She has improved enough to have attempted an escape from the hospital the day before yesterday and is fighting the staff hammer and tong!
This AM I called one of my newest and largest clients with some concern because, despite being the most accessible guy I have ever met, he hasn't returned my calls and emails for several days, even though we have deliverables due early next week. His assistant told me that his 97 yr old dad suffered not one but two strokes (see the pattern?) last week!
I am now changing my policy for new clients. Instead of a credit check and signed contract, I will now require a thorough medical exam and proof of health insurance.
I'd be tempted to just go ahead and aim for the trifecta-things come in threes. Halloween's coming up, right? Put on a Bernie Madoff mask, find some deserving elderly rich a$$hole (as neither of your first two hits seemed deserving, this could set your karma straight), and offer to invest every dime he has for a 2000% return, guaranteed.
That ought to do the trick.
(Of course ~ I do wish for a complete recovery for your clients. )
