If it were possible to actually find out what happened and we all put money down, I'd bet that it was a forum regular and you wouldn't even have to give me 2 to 1 odds to make that wager. To name names... that would take 30 to 1 and you'd have to let me pick three, but I'd probably be out of the money on that one.
Because the very same douchebags who would have done that to Bukk were also the ones that ran all the sock puppets you would have to up the number of guesses to ten or more to get the odds up but I think it would be an easy task to name the culprit.
Every once in a while there would be a new member with a new name and location and an unhealthy obsession with a single forum member. I'm no shrink, but some of it was pathological. (I remember Shooshie used to get a lot of that kind of attention.)
That is the pathology that would have done it. It would take a sick puppy to do it and we had them back then in spades
Could that include a marked disdain for the Smart Kids? and a Modus operandi include NEED to get rid of them?
carp, i teach at a public university. we have 2 departments in the College of Education. my department is probably mostly liberal or liberal leaning, i'd guess (maybe 4 or 5 of the 24 are conservative). but i wouldn't be surprised if more than 1/2 of the other department is conservative; maybe even 15 of the 25 faculty in that other department. i don't think anyone would argue that any public universities have a huge percentage of conservative professors, but they are certainly easily represented. my guess is that far fewer conservatives choose to become professors.
case in point, i got my Ph.D. at the number 1 program in the country for my major. it was competitive and people got in based on GRE and grades. i had a cohort of maybe 50 students in various departments that i got to know through classes. i don't think a single student i spent years hanging out with was conservative. so i was surprised to find "plenty" of conservatives at my current school among the faculty ranks.
When was that incident? A half dozen years ago, give or take a year? Of those who took part, most are long gone from these boards, and the very few of us still here have long since reversed our political position and now sing in the Liberal choir. Yet you continue to harp on it as if it were the single most traumatic experience of your life.
