ibook G4 1.42. 1.5ram. This machine has been in and out of Apple since I purchased it years ago. I had Apple care, all that the geniuses could do was wipe and reinstall every time there was a problem. After care ran out I was on my own. Brief history, ibook is well taken care of, it will work for a few months then the "unexpectedly quit" starts to happen, then its down hill from there, cryptic windows and error messages. All Apple could say was that the hardware was ok, and just reinstall. I have learned to keep bare bones system on it, when I can get it to run. It will not take any other software other than its original system disks. Tiger disables the track pad, I can get past that, to a point then it will not accept any updates. This ibook should be able to run Leopard, Leopard sends it into panic mode. I am posting a picture of one of the error windows, can anyone decipher this, I am thinking, its it a bad hard drive? Apple checked the hard drive and motherboard and found they were ok, but this machine is far from ok, thanks for any help.
Click the 4th button from the left of the smiley face in the reply window (you need to upload the image to a web space first) then paste the url of the image. The button puts [img] at the beginning of the url and [/img] at the end.
If you copy the error log out of the Send to Apple window after the crashes and paste it here maybe we can decipher something from it.
The computer problem to me sounds like possible bad RAM. Pull out the 1G RAM chip and see if the problems go away.
There is a shareware application called memtest that you can run to check RAM, it's only like $1.50 or something. It runs a few passes of the test to really warm the RAM up. If you're interested and need instructions running it let us know, a few people here are familiar with it, and I have a couple of shortcuts to make it easier.
