I read the link to Avnery's biography and was amazed at a number of things: how this man started out in his youth as a member of the Irgun; that someone who could not even come close to completing his formal education could write so well; and above all, Avnery's indomitable bravery throughout his life, in spite of often being a "voice in the wilderness," in spite, even, of brushes with death.
The current article you posted is clear and eloquent, and a good example of the plain rational humanity and patriotism (genuine patriotism) of such people on the left, who receive all kinds of vulgar calumny from scoundrels like Netanyahu, Sean Hannity, and Alan Dershowitz.
Avnery is a really exceptional person, judging from his writing and from his actions. I try to read every one of his weekly articles to better understand what is going on in the Middle East or "Semitic region" as he calls it (according to his biography page).

Derailing coming: Just noticed your title/status Cel. As the eminent Alan Moore's eminent work approaches release date as one of those Movie things more and more people are saying, "oh yeah, I saw something about that" as opposed to "Watchmen? Never heard of it." I have probably said before, but for some reason or another almost every movie makes it to Japan six months later than everywhere else. I might have to make a special trip to Guam or the like just to see it early.

It would surprise the heck outta' me if it were still worth it. (worth seeing, probably...worth leaving the country to see it....?)
Doaon about that I hope it's so good I'm forced to eat my words.
As you know, it's been through so many changes, Script-Writers, Directors, Actors trying to pare down what was outstanding because of it's intricacies to a 2.? hour movie that most real fans kinda gave up hope on it yonks.
'sides... ain't nothin' kill even a GOOD movie faster'n "HYPE"!
