I hate to admit this in the presence of such finicky company, but I just slap on whatever is in the drawer. I have socks that are so old I bought them before I was a father (something I can't really remember, by the way). I sometimes keep socks after they've developed holes, if the holes are in an out of the way kinda place. When my big toe starts poking out, though, into the trash they go.

In winter I do like nice thick socks that my wife gets for me at the Army Navy store. They're hunter's socks, I guess, but they do the job of keeping my tootsies warm.

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.--John Dryden, "Absalom and Achitophel"

and the age old mystery...why am I always missing one sock when I do the laundry? I search the washing machine, the area around the machine, under the bed, in the dog's mouth -- where do socks disappear to?

Not a big sock person, but I'd like to keep my toes warm and not have them eaten by my shoes when I walk. I hate bunchy socks.

Hehe that's interesting. I have certain shoes that always causes the looser socks to do that. I think of them as 'sock suckers'. I like the big packs of Hanes white crew. And I like fresh ones. Any holes or loose elastic they are gone. But I have a few dark pairs to go with certain shoes and outfits.

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough."
--Mae West

In reply to:

i need tan thicker athletic socks. anyone see these anywhere?

I've worn Thorlo's for a while with my Ecco and Rockport shoes and they have lasted longer than my other socks, around six months. Although they do cost a bit more, not a bargin but they are very comfortable.
