I had this MacBook Pro sitting around for months with a screen that would not light up. I did get it to work from the LCD projector but finally wouldn't do even that. It's a spare so never any impetus to bring it to repair and thought it would be a hassle. Sure enough, getting my Institute to do it would have been a huge pain. Someone has to bring it to main campus.
Finally, yesterday afternoon, I biked over in ten minutes to the Apple store and shlepped up the glass staircase to the Genius Bar. I had made an appointment on the website 30 minutes earlier so a concierge was waiting for me. Brought me over to Michael who plugged in diagnostics and 30 seconds later said it needed to be shipped back. Left it.
Before noon today I get a call it is ready to be picked up. Logic board replaced no charge thank you very much. Updated to 10.5.7 while I had lunch.
