HYANNIS - A collision between two Ford Mustang convertibles killed a Brewster woman and seriously injured the other driver who stands accused of being drunk. The crash happened about 1 a.m. in the 700 block of Main Street near the South Street split. Barnstable Police tell CWN the white Mustang above driven on Stevens Street by 43-year-old Lynn C. Garland was struck broadside by the black one at right driven on Main Street by 23-year-old Rodrigo Freitas of Hyannis. The impact left the vehicles a considerable distance apart. Garland was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital when she was pronounced dead. Freitas suffered a fractured leg. A passenger in Freitas' car was not seriously injured. Freitas has been charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and operating to endanger. Barnstable Police called in crash reconstruction specialist Neil Gearin who is continuing to investigate the exact cause of the deadly crash and whether additional charges may be filed.
