On my old Imac, the Airport extreme card does not start up my wirless network. I have to manually turn on Airport Extreme to access my wirless network. The Imac is running OS X 10.3.9. So is there a setting so I won't have to keep turning the airport card on for my wirless internet to run. It's kind of a pain to do this whenever I turn on this machine.
In the Airport Network settings there is an option to set your wireless network as a preferred network. I forget how to get to it in 10.3.x and don't have one available, but I'd say that's the problem in your setup. I think it's an Options or Advanced button you have click to get there.
