Well, I don't 'rub on butt'. I use 'belly' instead. Works just great! BTW: Is that screen made of glass or is it something else? I've had my 'Touch' for several months now and there's no scratch on it anywhere (on screen). But I've seen others who've had scratches on the front screen...
Optical quality scratch resistant glass has come a long way. I think we owe the scanners in your grocer store for upping the hardness of the hardest glass Steve Jobs can buy.
Remember when the clerk had to rub your pack of hotdogs over the scanner a dozen times? Not anymore because the laser can easily see through the piece of glass even though the clerk has been dragging her wedding ring across it for months.
I bought a clear acrylic case with my Touch. Although it leaves the screen naked, I'm glad I got it because I have knocked the thing off a four foot table onto a hardwood floor twice within five minutes today. Continues to work fine. The fingerprint thing is a pain, asswise, though.
Yes, it does take quite a bit. Although I have to admit I put a smallish scratch on my iPhone. I thing a car key came in contact with it. Darn sharp-edged key... there's a reason kids use them to scratch up paint jobs.
